- Place all of the ingredients in the slow cooker and stir. Cover and cook on low for 7 to 9 hours, or until the carrots are tender.
You can thicken the glaze at the end of cooking by adding a mixture of 1 dessertspoon cornflour and 2 dessertspoons cold water, then cooking a further 15 minutes.

Slow Cooker Glazed Carrots
I am guilty of being horrible with sides for dinner. It is always an afterthought for me! So I’m trying to find some ways to get better with serving a nice yummy side! Bring out the slow cooker and I’m on it – it’s what led to Slow Cooker Glazed Carrots!
I am also hosting Thanksgiving this year and my family will have to travel to get to me! So it’s not like I can say – “Hey you bring some sides!”. Nope, it’s all me. I’m trying out recipes to make our Thanksgiving feast spectacular this year.
These Slow Cooker Glazed Carrots are definitely now on the list for me! They were 1 – easy 2 – almost no prep and 3 – except for some stirring a true fix and forget kind of dish. Give them a try this fall and maybe they’ll end up on your Thanksgiving (or dare I say Christmas) table too.
While these are going to be great for holidays – Glazed Carrots are good with just about any dinner. I sometimes just make a huge batch and then we eat them all week long. My kids gobble them up and well…I love that!
How to make slow cooker carrots
- Prep. Peel and slice the carrots into 4-5 pieces. Cutting them on a slight angle gives them a bit of a rustic feel. Otherwise, cut them how you like! Place them into the slow cooker.
- Melt the butter. In a small saucepan, melt the butter. You can brown it if you’d like, which will give the carrots a bit more of an earthy flavor. Follow this by adding in the sugar and salt and cook to combine.
- Coat the carrots. Pour the butter over the carrots sitting in the crockpot. Stir well to combine, making sure all carrots are coated evenly. Cover with the lid and cook until tender.
- Keep warm. If you aren’t ready to serve them immediately, turn the crockpot onto the warm setting until ready. Salt and pepper to taste and add optional fresh parsley for garnish.
One of the best things about this recipe is how few ingredients you actually need. Let&rsquos take a look at the six ingredients you&rsquoll want to have on hand:
- Carrots &ndash This recipe was originally created with a 2-pound bag of mini baby carrots. Baby carrots have already been washed and peeled, helping you skip a step in the preparation process.
- You can always choose to use the carrot chips, or cut and peel whole carrots. Do know that the cook time may vary depending on how thick you cut your carrots.
- Feel free to substitute this with pure maple syrup if you&rsquore vegan.
- If you forget to add this, you will end up burning the carrots in the Crock-Pot!
How to Make Slow Cooker Glazed Carrots
Grab your slow cooker and place 3 bags (12 ounces each) of baby petite carrots in the bottom.
In a medium microwavable bowl, melt the 1/4 cup butter. Whisk in the 1/3 cup light brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg.
Pour mixture over carrots and toss to combine. Set the slow cooker on high for 3 hours or until the carrots are tender. Give the carrots a good mix to coat with the glaze before serving.

I don’t know about you but I cannot believe that next week is Thanksgiving. It has come up so fast this year. I think one of the reasons that I don’t feel like it’s this time of year is because our weather has been so incredible. It has been blue skies and warm sunny days and it just feels like it’s still October. Nevertheless, it will be the 4th Thursday in November next week and that means lots and lots of side dishes. Oh how I love some good side dishes. I love trying a little of each one and just enjoying the bounty.
I’m thinking you really should make these slow cooker orange glazed carrots for one of your Thanksgiving side dishes. They are easily made in the slow cooker so they won’t take up your precious oven space. They are bright and slightly tart from the orange marmalade. I made just enough for our family of four in this recipe so I think you should at least triple the recipe for Thanksgiving (depending on how many are coming to dinner).

For these Slow Cooker Orange Glazed Carrots I went with my 3-quart casserole crock made by the Crock-Pot brand. I have loved this casserole shaped crockpot for recipes just like this. I love that the crock insert is completely oven and dishwasher safe. I love how if you want to brown the top of a casserole you can do that quickly in the oven after it cooks all day in the slow cooker. Or if you want to bake something in the oven and then put it into the crockpot and keep it warm on the counter, you can do that too. They cost around $40 and I think totally worth the investment!

SLOW COOKER CARROTS
Crockpot carrots are a staple on my list of favorite Crockpot side dishes. I’ve been a huge fan of glazed carrots for most of my life. I actually prefer cooked carrots over raw carrots.
If you’re like me, you seem to always have a bag of baby carrots hanging around in the refrigerator. Sometimes I buy them with the intention of snacking on them but then I forget. This cinnamon carrots slow cooker recipe is a great way to use up those carrots before they go bad! You’ll probably find that you have almost everything you need in your kitchen already!
The ingredient list is very simple!
- Baby carrots (or whole carrots, peeled and chopped)

HOW TO MAKE BROWN SUGAR CINNAMON CARROTS
While I recommend using baby carrots to make this recipe for the convenience factor, you can use whole carrots too! If you’re using whole carrots, be sure to wash and peel them before chopping them into chunks of similar size. I love using a Y-Peeler to make peeling carrots so much easier!
Once you have your carrots chopped or you’ve opened the bag of baby carrots, spray the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray and dump your carrots into the crock.
You can also use a slow cooker liner instead of spraying the Crockpot! I love using them when I’m not cooking for The Simple Parent. They make clean up so much easier!
Put the butter in a small bowl and melt it. Then mix in the honey, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the glaze over the carrots and toss to coat them with the mixture.
Then cook your candied carrots on HIGH for 3 hours. Watch your carrots as you get close to the 3-hour mark and check them for your desired tenderness. If they need more than 3 hours, be sure to check them frequently if you go any longer. You don’t want them to burn!
If you want to add some parsley flakes as a garnish, sprinkle some on top or toss your carrots in them. You’ll get a very traditional look for glazed carrots!
HOW LONG TO COOK CARROTS IN CROCKPOT
The slow cooker time for carrots on HIGH is about 3 hours. This may be slightly different depending on your slow cooker. I had a Crockpot once that I knew cooked very hot so I would always shorten the time.
You can always start checking on your cinnamon sugar-glazed carrots around 2.5 hours to see how they’re doing! If you’re cooking a smaller batch of carrots they may take less time. If you’re making these glazed carrots for a crowd and have doubled the recipe, you may need a little extra cook time.
Don’t be afraid to check on them!
This timing works well for both savory and sweet carrots you might make in your slow cooker.
