If you're in love with fried food but have never heard of an air fryer, you may not believe what I am about to tell you.
You can fry food, with air, and without any oil.
Can you believe? If you're like. absolutely not, allow me to explain the incredible device known as the air fryer:
Air fryers work by circulating hot air around the food using a convection mechanism (a fan circulates the air around the food at a v high speed), which not only cooks your food and cooks it faster than a
oven, it also gives your food that delicious crisp all fried food should have.
Soo basically, magic. Learn more about how air fryers work from Air Fryer Review on Youtube.
What people are saying
This family-size air fryer has more than 200 customer reviews on Amazon Canada and an impressive 4.5-star rating from customers who love how easy it is to make their favourite recipes using virtually no oil.
"Wow, I was skeptical about air fryers. I thought the food would be hot but not crispy but boy, was I wrong," one shopper wrote. "Although I've only tried this once since I just received it, but I love it. We cooked frozen wings, spring rolls, coconut shrimp and fries and everything was awesome. It was super crispy and cooked throughout. It's my new favourite kitchen appliance."
One thing to note about this air fryer is that it can take up quite a bit of counter space, however shoppers have noted that it’s worth it considering how much food you are able to prepare.
"I bought this for my daughter for her birthday this summer. At first I think she was a little disappointed that I was gifting her a kitchen appliance. So one evening I cooked some tater tots and she was sold! With four little ones ages two to seven, she needs to cook meals that everyone will eat," another shopper wrote. "So now the appliance has a permanent spot on her counter and I'm sure it's used daily in some fashion. It holds a lot of food and cooking is even and fast. I love that she finds it indispensable."

Fresh vegetables and lean meats (think: pork chops, chicken breasts or salmon) make delicious family dinners on the fly, and frozen treats like mozzarella sticks or tater tots come out perfect every time. As for what not to cook: wet or flour-based batter are tricky to pull off in an air fryer because of the rapid fan. Be sure to freeze anything with a liquid batter before cooking, or follow an air fryer-specific batter recipe to ensure the tastiest results.

Best Toaster Oven Air Fryer: Instant Pot Plus 11-in-1 Toaster Oven

It comes with an oven rack, a cooking pan, a rotisserie spit and forks, and an air fryer basket, and its large capacity fits 12-inch pizzas and whole chickens. The toaster oven air fryer achieves the same crispy texture as a deep fryer with 95% less oil than the latter usually requires. One Amazon reviewer crowned it a "game-changer in the best way." "It's a little large, but it can accommodate two racks that can cook at the same time," said the shopper. "I barely use my oven anymore."
Best Air Fryer Lid: Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid
It's technically not an air fryer, but the Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid deserves a spot on this list purely for its ingenuity. For those who already own an Instant Pot, it could be difficult to commit to another big appliance, but this lid solves that problem by turning your Instant Pot into an air fryer. It fits most Instant Pot models to fry, roast, bake, broil, reheat, and dehydrate, and it comes with a multi-level air fryer basket as well as a broiling tray. Thousands of reviewers snapped it up when it was quietly released in late 2019, and it now has thousands of corresponding five-star ratings.
What is an air fryer and how does it work?
Simply put, it's like deep frying without the oil — so, deep frying without the majorly unhealthy part.
Deep fryers flash heat foods and take them from frozen to ready-to-eat in minutes by dunking them in a bath of super hot oil. While your typical deep fryer needs enough oil to completely douse the food, an air fryer barely uses any (like, a tablespoon at most). Instead of surrounding food in liquid, an air fryer's convection fan rapidly circulates hot air all over the fryer's chamber. The overhead air bounces off of the bottom and back up across the underside of the food, quickly evaporating moisture and achieving a balanced, golden-browning in just minutes. The circulating heat in itself sets air fryers apart from a regular oven.
Some may go so far as to say that air frying is glorified convection baking. The fan approaches are nearly identical, with the deciphering factor lying in the size of the cooker. Basket-style air fryers are smaller and rounder than your typical toaster oven shape, making them able to concentrate a high amount of bouncing heat onto a smaller area.
Whether you even consider that to be "frying" with the absence of hot fat or oil is up to you, but it does technically jumpstart the Maillard reaction — the phenomenon that gives browned or blackened foods that signature taste and texture.
Air fryers and deep fryers don't have the exact same menu, either. True, deep fryers can handle the dripping batter that would just fall through an air fryer's perforated tray. But air fryers take the cake in versatility because (size willing) they can literally bake a cake (or a pizza, or donuts), grill a steak, or fry empanadas. Frozen food isn't required to be thawed before cooking, and it's all done in a fraction of the time as a traditional oven. Some models even double as a pressure cooker or a dehydrator, or can cook a whole rotisserie chicken.
This spunky tablet is mighty cute — and mighty powerful, breezing through apps like the included WPS Office. Detach the keyboard and it’s a standalone tablet. It operates on Android Marshmallow with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, so it’s compact but powerful. And just look at that price—more than half off. Was $180, now $88.
